Advocating in DC

March 12, 2015

This week, 6 EVO students visited Washington DC to meet with members of congress about the importance of after school  programs. Jesus Yanez, Odia Kane, Janae McMillan, Dela Tarpeh, Ahmad Keita and Vishal Patel visited the office of Senators Murphy and Blmenthal, and Representatives DeLauro, Esty, and Larson, where they shared personal stories about the impact after school programs have had on their lives. On March 9, we participated in a workshop where we learned about communicating with lawmakers and about relevant bills in the house and senate. On March 10, we visited the five offices, and even ate lunch in the senate dining room. It was an incredible experience, and we were thrilled to be a part of it. This trip was made possible by the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) and the After School Alliance.
